"According to NETSCOUT, by combining file encryption, data theft and DDoS attacks, cybercriminals have essentially developed three-pronged ransomware designed to increase payment possibilities. SunCrypt and Ragnor Locker ransomware are said to be the first to use this tactic. But since then, other operators have also followed, including Avaddon and Darkside, the perpetrator of the Colonial Pipeline incident. From the perspective of threat actors, adding DDoS attacks to the list of ransomware services is a smart business move"
