I am trying to identify a 486 Motherboard manufacturer. It's for a
friend & I have absolutely no documentation. I tried to determine it
using the BIOS String. Perhaps you could help me. Here is the best
information I can provide.

This number can identify the motherboard if AMI were willing to tell
you. Some years ago, I tried to discuss this with their tech department
and was given a rather rude lecture about buying a Taiwanese
motherboard. I tried to point out that they made that BIOS for that
particular board, not me. A friend made up the computer for me and was
using a Biostar Taiwanese board since that ran the AMD chip. In
retrospect, it would have been easier to use a slower Intel board and
chip, but I was annoyed at Intel for some of their arrogant practices.
This might be one recourse. AMI customizes their BIOS's for different
manufacturers and that number is most likely unique to one, perhaps UMC.
Any manufacturers whose initials are UMC? AMI might tell you which
manufacturer they made that BIOS for. Maybe their tech department will
be more kind than they were for me.

Hi Galen...........
MR.BIOS can most likely identify the board for you ........they do
make relpacement BIOS chips for many boards, & IMHO, a very
good BIOS. Contact Unicore in Mass.
Good Luck,
Wayne
I tried this page (AMI's):
http://www.ami.com/motherboards/identifying_your_motherboard.html
but found nothing that matched. Perhaps if You take a look for Yourself
having the real thing in front of You?
UMC are afak a chip manufacturer, I have a UMC 8667 chip on my MoBo
('I/O TTL integration' the manual says).
Good luck,
Per
This may be a "Geen PC" or "Deep Green" motherboard
If anyone is posting a FAQ for this group, I think it would
be a good idea to put this URL in it.

No SMUT peddlers allowed here bucko!
I have an Amptron DX-6900/Pcchips M912 uses UMC8498 chipset.
You can verify by checking the super i/o chip if it is a UMC8663
Also check http://www.amptron.com/6900diag.html for layout.

This can be tedious, but it works:
At boot up, in the top left of the screen will be your board's model
number. This is before, or to the left of, the BIOS version. Take
that number (ie, PVT-486) and do a web search on it. Match it with
something like "motherboard" to narrow the search. This is how I've
ID'd my last two boards.
