Update the BIOS. You can download the latest version at the Adeptec Web
site. http://www.adaptec.com/support/overview/aha2940uw.html. File:
AFUV220.EXE. If your adapter is upgradeable, this Bios will default to
20MB/sec.

As far as I know this is actually a narrow fast controler (not ultra).
So 10m/sec should be the max.

close but no cigar - the 2940 is plain old narrow fast scsi (10Mb/s), the
2940U/2940AU are ultra narrow scsi, and hence do 20Mb/s (as long as you can
keep the cables in spec anyway - with all the drives off my 2940AU there's
no way I can actually use ultra speed, so it's set down to 10Mb/s)

It actually depends on the 'date' of the controller concerned. The
cards with 'U', should support the faster 20MHz rate, _but_ there
were a few supplied, when the 'U' was new, that used the PCB that was
for the 'forthcoming' ultra controller, but still had the chipset and
crystal fitted, to only allow 10MHz operation. I had a couple some
years ago. Also some of the earlier BIOS versions have a seperate
'tab', for 'enable ultra speed', and the faster rates only become
available if this is enabled. This card may fall into one or the
other of these 'possibilities'...
