I've found a 64bit driver which lists every OS up to Win2K3, but
installing it caused Windows 7 to revert to the previous restore
point. Has anyone found a driver which works in 64bit Windows 7 with
the DC-315U? Or do I have to install the 64bit driver in a certain
way in order for it to work?

The SCSI adapter worked fine in 32bit XP. Since this is a base driver
problem, XP mode won't resolve it. I'd rather not try to dual boot
the PC, and a replacement SCSI adapter will be expensive. Anyone have
any ideas?

Heck, I probably have one
to spare around here if
you want to try it and
have something to trade
for it.

No idea what I'd trade for it! I'd need to find a list of Adaptec PCI
cards with Windows 7 drivers. Otherwise I would be swapping one non-
functioning card for another.

Agreed -- just find where
Windoze7 keeps its .inf

convention hasn't been
changed) and do some
snooping to see what's
already supported, then
of course there's the
Adaptec website, which
has been very good over
the years at keeping up
with M$.

http://ask.adaptec.com/scripts/adaptec_tic.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=13250

The link above lists which Adaptec SCSI cards have drivers included
with Windows 7. I've been offered a 29160 which is supported but it's
a PCI-X card (not PCI) which I doubt will work on the motherboard, and
the default connector is 68 pin not 50. I might try a computer fair
and see if I can pick up a second hand PCI card. A 2940AU would be
ideal.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

Isn't PCIX compatable with PCI? It's PCI-E that shares only a name.

A 68-50 adapter is easy as well. But a $2 hamfest special might
be even less outlay.

AFAIK it should be compatible in general, but PCI-X is always 3.3V.
Therefore you need a 3.3V PCI-Slot (with key on the bracked side) or you
cannot plug in the PCI-X card. And with a 32Bit PCI-Slot you need space
on the mainboard for the "overhanging" part of the 64Bit PCI-X
connector.

Thanks for the warning. I already knew about the problem of the
overhanging section. I need to check the motherboard to see if it's
physically possible.

Thanks but the problem is that I'm in Australia, so the postage
becomes more than the card! ;)
