I recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64 Professional. I bought an Adaptec
29160N SCSI controller to retain my two SCSI optical drives, Plextor
Ultraplex PX-40Tsi and Teac CD-R58S. I have no LVD drives connected,
just the 2 optical drives with an IDC50 cable, two device, 3
connectors, 0.76m. The BIOS on the 29160N is the latest 3.10.00
revision and drivers are installed correctly, no conflicts.

29160N (term/Auto) > PX-40Tsi (ID 5, no term) > CD-R58S (ID 6,
termination set with the jumper on the drive)

I keep getting the message

"Insufficient termination detected on Fast/Ultra SE Connectors"

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

John

Maybe you have misunderstood the manual:
On the CD-R58S the jumper disables the terminator. If the termination
jumper is currently installed, remove the jumper to enable the
terminator.

Also verify that the CD-R58S is connected to the physical end of the
cable (or the terminator can't do its job correctly).

Michael,

Thank you so much, I just found the manual online:

http://server.elektro.dtu.dk/ftp/database/Drivers/Drivers-org/Cd/TEAC%20CD-540E%20support%20CD/data/Manuals/Quick-Installation/English/Qck_CD-R58S_e.pdf

You are correct, I've had this drive for more than 10 years running on
an Adaptec 2940 with no issues without termination!!! I bought the
drive OEM, no manual included. I'll reconfigure this evening and
hopefully all will be good.

An example how error-tolerant parallel SCSI can be. But there are still
people out there who claim that you need to sacrifice a goat to get it
working ... ;-)

If not, you can swap the drives and let the Plextor do the termination.
If this manual don't lie:
http://ps-2.kev009.com/basil.holloway/ALL%20PDF/PX_40TS_TSUW.pdf
on the PX-40 the jumper should work as intuitively expected (terminator
enabled if installed).

Just dropped by to say thanks again, it's great to have the Plextor
back and use EAC once again. The Teac was a little more trouble, I had
to remove Elby VirtualCloneDrive before Win 7 would see the drive but
all seems fine now. I have a spare Adaptec 29160N if anyone is
considering upgrading to Win 7 x64 and retaining their SCSI setup,
fully working, earlier BIOS revision 2.57.2 but easily updated, very
reasonably priced.

SCSI, there really is no substitute!
