|Good question!

Call the (916) service center number, press 1 (that you've already
been diagnosed...so lie a little) and then raise holy hell. They're
picking up my scanner tomorrow ;-)

You might be amused to know that I posted a complaint to the "Customer
Care" Forum complaining of the problems in reaching a real person to
return a scanner under warranty. My posting appeared, then
disappeared. I guess the moderator found it "inappropriate" ;-)
In a way, though, hp's behavior is useful. There will be a customer
rebellion, perhaps a class-action suit, perhaps even government
regulation...the poor customer service performance by ALL suppliers of
PC hardware AND software must come to a halt!

I have seen Deskscan 2.8 and 2.9 as well as versions of PrecisionScan
on various newsgroups.
Good Luck! (work for, not speaking for HP Scanjets)
