I'm currently working on a tutorial for scanning color negatives with
vuescan with the special ambition of using and color correcting the
whole contrast range.
Since the color correction of high contrast images is a wide field I've
split the tutorial into three parts:
http://www.erik-krause.de/tutorial/part1.htm is on scanning negatives
in general with some explanation of basic vuescan functions.
http://www.erik-krause.de/tutorial/part2.htm is on a possible use of
IT8 targets with color negative film.
http://www.erik-krause.de/tutorial/part3.htm is on scanning the whole
contrast range in one step and creating and using a correction curve
for that range.
Please note that these are drafts only. The final text will be
formatted and enriched with images, screenshots etc. But first I would
like to know wether the text is ok, both the language and the content.

I hoped to get some more resonance on my project, especially from the
professionals like Bart, Wayne or Ed. I put a considerable amount of
work in the tutorials and would very much like to know, whether it is
worth to spend even more days in finishing them.

Although I'm not one of those professionals, I took a look at your
instructions and I decided the whole procedure was too complex for me.
Plus, I'm on a Mac and the compiled version of LCMS seems to be
Windows-only, let alone those other .exe files you mention.
Anyway, I can confirm the need for more accurate color reproduction, but
the first thing I'm hoping for ist that Ed will spend some of his
precious time in the DSE 5400 Dmax bug that Bart brought up in another
thread.

I'll try to work on this today.

That was one of my concerns, but Ed Hamrick is addressing that issue. I'm
pretty confident he can tame the beast (the scanner that is, not me ;-) ).

I was afraid to hear this. But even this information is important for
me.

For part one there is no need for additional programs. And since the
lcms profiler is based on QT (there is a compiled linux version, too),
someone should be able to compile a Mac version.

Hope he'll solve it so anyone can focus on less important things again
