I want to clean my Agfa Duoscan T1200 but I'm ashamed to admit that I can't
figure out how to release the locking mechanism that allows the reflective
glass to be removed. Can someone tell me how to do this? The locking
mechanism will not depress as stated in Agfa FAQ014
(http://support.agfa.com/documents/Public/DTP/FAQ_10043894.html)

I am wanting to clean the mechanism because I have begun getting faint red
and green lines along the length of the scan in reflective mode (for a
sample see http://www.JustUs.ca/sample.jpg) Can someone tell me if cleaning
the scanner is the way to get rid of these lines?

Thanks, Mardon

Have someone else move the top plate slightly forth and back while you
depress the locking tab with a screwdriver. It is indeed more than a
little tricky.

There is a rather complicated arrangement of mirrors and I'm afraid you
won't be able to access most of the places that need cleaning.

This is the weak point of the whole Duoscan series. Dust and dirt
penetrate through the transparency drawer. To make things worse, Agfa
ask about three times as much for a CLA of the T1200 as Nikon do for one
of my LS-30. In fact, one CLA is half the price of the new machine, with
the T1200.

I've sold mine because of this.

Thanks for your post. It allowed me to get back in business! :-)
Once I realized from your comment that it's a two-person job to release the
locking mechanism and get the cover off the T1200, I was able to get it
done. Now that I see how it works, I can manage to get it off myself but it
does take some perseverance.
After reading that it costs 1/2 the price of a new scanner to get a Duoscan
cleaned, I decided to take a risk and use compressed air to try and blow the
dirt out of the mirror mechanism. And it worked! I now have only one
extremely faint line at the very edge of the scan area. If I spend some
time at it, I think that I may be able remove that line too but for now I
have a project to finish and the scanner is working good enough to get that
done! Thanks so much.
