Hi

I got a new Nikon LS-2000 negative scanner this fall.

Within a couple of days, it developed problems feeding
in negatives via the SA-20 strip film adapter. The negative
strip got pulled in too far, and gets rolled up in the rear
of the SA-20.

I tried it with different negatives. I attached it to
different computers, each using a different SCSI card.

I sent the scanner and SA-20 back to Nikon for repair.
A few weeks later it came back.

It still has the same problem.

I'll have to contact Nikon
and have them attempt a second repair.

Rather frustrating to have a $2000 scanner not be able
to pull in a negative. More frustrating that a few weeks
in the repair loop were a total waste.

Any other LS-2000 owners experience this sort of thing ??

Thanks Richard.

I went there.

Looks like I'm not alone, both as regards the problem
and Nikon's random repair effort.

I just sent the SA-20 adapter back when mine started to do the same
thing. The scanner still works with the MA-20 adapter.
The SA-20 worked OK for a couple of weeks after I got it back from Nikon
then it started going wrong again.
I tried cleaning the film with Tetenal Film Cleaner Spray and the
scanner has been fine ever since.
It did start to play up again when I added a CDrom writer to the SCSI
chain, but as long as the CDrom is switched on before starting up it
seems to be OK. Mine is attached to a Mac by the way.

Hope this helps.

I've had same exact problem. I use the "manual" carrier exclusively now.
If anyone hears of a permanent fix, please advise.

Thanks for the data.

It's helpful to know that other folks have seen this problem.
Lets one be a bit more persistent if tech support phone folks
try to deny problem realities.

Nikon's support number for the scanner is 800-645-6678.

It's been giving a busy signal all day today.

Nikon's support phone number for the LS-2000 is
800-645-6678.

It was busy today until a few minutes ago, when I
was finally able to connect.

The representative was very professional and understanding.
She's sending a UPS-Blue mailing label to me via overnight
delivery, for sending the unit back to them.

I'll keep posting on this thread until the issue's successfully
resolved. Useful for anyone interested in a high-quality
negative scanner, I hope.

I think it's very odd that Nikon and Polaroid have the same phone
number, and promise the same service on two distinctly different
scanners that developed the same problem for the same owner. Stan, you
wouldn't be putting us on would you?

The numbers are different:

Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 800-432-5355
Nikon LS-2000 800-645-6678

> and promise the same service

Slightly different: Nikon is paying for shipping both ways,
with no cajoling needing, for this 2nd fixit round.
Polaroid wants me to pay one way,
unless cajoling succeeds.

> on two distinctly different

Pretty similar problems, but with differences as noted
earlier in these threads.

> Stan, you

Nope. I don't have the time. I'm amazed by the coincidental
failure similarities myself. Murphy rules.

I'll be a happy camper when these
expen$ive devices both work as expected.

Stan

ps -- I'm going to ask for warranty extensions on each device,
once they both work the way they should have from the start.
