Help please with disassembling this scanner.

The cover is off & the 4 small screws which apparently secure the
black base to the off-white plastic surround for the glass have been
removed, but the 2 halves remain firmly attached together.

What's the trick?

I have the user manual (27 page 1.5MB pdf file) but that is no help.
Does a proper service/repair manual exist?

TIA for any help

most likely has some small clip tabs inside holding it together and
another thing it may lift off from one end.

I just opened up my 4370. It comes apart in the middle between the two
clamshells, There is a tiny, tiny groove there into which you can insert the
blade of a wide thin-bladed screwdriver and do a slight twist. They pop open
a millimeter or so, and then you can wiggle them loose.

BTW my problem is hat it suddenly stopped scanning full-page. Now it scans
about an inch then halts. All kinds of 800-numbers, many hours and 20 bucks
(for a year's clean-up service, and still no fix. Any suggestions?

Check the motor, the drive belt and the bits that physically move the scan
head across the glass, make sure they are free to move and dont jam.
lube the arm the scan head moves across LIGHTLY

Did all that. The problem still occurs. Later, I found a self-test that is
triggered with two front buttons on re-powering, where the scan arm runs
back and forth all the way, flashing the lamp at specific times. All works
fine.
The mechanics are good.

The inch that is scanned has good resolution and stability.

I then installed the software on another computer, and the fault remains.

The error code says "lost communication", which sounds like a receiver-servo
driver-timer processing problem, pointing to that PC board (the large one
into which power, cover and USB connect).

If HP could send be a fresh PC board, I can install it myself.

Any idea how that can be implemented?

I've been looking for a repair shop here in Columbus, OH to take it to. But
the many "partners" that HP lists are mostly vendor shops that fix
warranty -new products. This Scanjet 4370 was bought in 2006.

Tomorrow (Monday) I will call around the five-odd shops hat SEEM to be tech
savvy...

Comments?

Ange.
