Twain Source Manager Problem

After I re-installed Windows95 the Twain Source Manager does not find
the Data source files (*.cs) of my applications (scanner, digital
camera)
any more -- even though the files "*.cs", twain*.dll and the folder
"twain*" are present.
When I try to import pictures via Twain I receive the message:
"no source found" and cannot address neither the scanner nor the digital
camera.

Do you have an idea what goes wrong?
Might there be an error in the registy (already cleaned by regclean.exe
without success)?

Roland -

The data source file extension is ".ds", not ".cs"; I assume this is
what you meant. Are the "*.ds" files under the "TWAIN" or "TWAIN_32"
directories?

Thanks for asking!
Directory structure (after deleting twain files and reinstallation of
drivers):

directory windows
twain.dll
twain_32.dll
directory twain
directory qcam
twcam16.ds
directory twain_32
directory scan32
scanobj.ds + many xxx.dll files

Does Win95 knows that in twain directories are further subdirectories? If not
how the registry could be updated (regclean.exe did not help)?

The TWAIN Data Source Manager searches for TWAIN data sources under the
\WINDOWS\TWAIN and \WINDOWS\TWAIN_32 directories, including any
subdirectories.

Can you provide any specifics about your problem? What application(s)
are you using, what is the exact sequence resulting in the error, what
is the exact text of the error, etc?

I have no idea how to fix the problem (is there any tool by which twain components
can be tested individually).
I open any twain compatible application, eg. "paint shop pro". I select "import",
then "twain", then "select source". Now a window opens; in the past I could select
different sources (scanner, digital camera), now it is empty and I get the message
"no source available".

If I select "import" instead of "select source" I get an error message as well
("data error").

Any idea?

Are you running Windows 9x, or Windows NT?

I don't see anything wrong with the information you have provided; it
ought to work, as near as I can tell. You might try re-installing the
scanner and digital camera drivers. You might also try re-installing
the Data Source Manager, which can be downloaded from
www.twain.org/download.htm; select

"Download the 32bit Data Source Manager (Version: 1.6.0.3, Posted: March
15, 1999)"

under "32bit Data Source Manager (Win32s, Win95, and WinNT)".

I cannot remember reinstalling Windows and not having to reinstall my scanning
applications to reestablish the links.

If all else fails, reinstall your scanning software application(s).

Operating system: windows95
I'll check the address you mentioned.

* Do you have any ideas how I can test the system? Eg. is it possible to run the Source
manager alone and to get an error message which is a little bit more informative than
"source not found"?

* Is it possible to address the "*.ds" files directly? It means: do I have a chance to
start my scanner with a stand alone program (it was shipped with Twain interface
software only)? Eg. "twaininput.exe" which ask for *.ds files and handles the input?

Thanks again for your remarks!

Roland

I reinstalled not only Windows95 but the Twain drivers as well. But I did not find an
option to deinstall the Twain related files properly (instead I deleted the files
manually before reinstallation)

In your WIN.INI file, there should be a [TWAIN] section. It probably
has one entry, "Default Source=yadayadayada", indicating the most
recently selected data source.

Add another entry to the [TWAIN] section: "Debug Mode=3". This will
cause the Data Source Manager to generate TWAIN.LOG in the WINDOWS
directory. The file logs TWAIN command activity. This MAY give some
indication of the problem.

You might also try subscribing to the TWAIN mailing list at
www.twain.org. This group is manned by some very experienced TWAIN
developers that may be able to solve your problem.

(I already subscribed the newsgroup -- they gave me some hint how to program my interface by
myself...)

Thanks for the hint on the log file.

Can you interpret it (s.b.)?
Best regards
