HP1170C printer problem

sorry if you are reading this again but i typed the wrong email address

i have just installed my old printer to a new pc and i am having problems.

the printers prints some items and then stops part way through with
product error "the computer has lost communication with the printer.

i have check all the cables and they are fine.

it also keeps asking if the ecp parralel port is on ?

Several things to try: Make sure you have an IEEE-1284 compatible printer
cable. It should say IEEE-1284 printed on the cable. The other thing to do is
make sure your parallel port is set to ECP. This is usually set in your
BIOS - refer to your computer's manual for details. If you are running Windows
95 or Windows 98 you can check the status of the parallel port by Start ->
Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Ports, then select the
LPT port. It should say "ECP Printer Port". If there is a red X or a yellow !
it indicates some hardware or driver conflict. At that point you can run the
"hardware troubleshooter" which can step through solving some types of problems.
