I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to change the icm
profile on the printer setup under the color tab, and it isn't an option,
apparently. I can change it in the printer properties from the printer
list in the control panel, but that change does not appear when you go try
to print from an application.

Running XP.

Thanks in advance!
Keith

Here's a transcript of my log with an HP employee, who was of no help.

Franklin: Hello Keith,
Franklin: Welcome to HP Total Care for All-in-One products. My name is
Franklin. How may I assist you today?
Keith Nelson: I just need to know how I can get a different icm profile to
show up in my printer settings when doing a page setup from an application
Franklin: Could you provide me a detailed description of the problem, which
would allow me to understand the issue better?
Keith Nelson: it uses srgb colorspace as the icm profile, even though I have
specifically told it to use the one I created and entered into the color
management tab of the printer properties (separate window from the ICM
selection)
Keith Nelson: here's my setup
Keith Nelson: If I open the control panel and choose printers & faxes
Keith Nelson: then I select "properties" under the right click menu for my
HP Photosmart C3100 Series printer
Keith Nelson: I choose the "Color Management" tab
Keith Nelson: I have it set to "Manual"
Keith Nelson: I have a profile that I created listed in the bottom list box.
I have the one that I want, "target-costco-3100-150patc" selected
Keith Nelson: I click the "set as default" button
Keith Nelson: I click the "apply" button
Keith Nelson: I click the "ok" button to close this item
Keith Nelson: (the properties window I mean)
Franklin: I understand.
Keith Nelson: then, for example, I go to internet explorer
Keith Nelson: I go to a webpage
Keith Nelson: I choose "File->Print"
Keith Nelson: from the menu
Keith Nelson: I select HP Photosmar C3100 series as my printer in the
"Select Printer" list
Keith Nelson: I click the "preferences" button
Keith Nelson: the Printing Preferences for my printer comes up
Keith Nelson: I click the "color" tab
Keith Nelson: I choose "Print in Color" radio button
Keith Nelson: I choose "ICM" under the Color Management dropdown box
Keith Nelson: The ICM profile listed is "sRGB Color Space Profile.icm"
Keith Nelson: Obviously, that's not the same one that I chose earlier.
Keith Nelson: So the question is how to get the correct icm file listed.
Franklin: Thank you for the detailed information
Franklin: Okay, is the All-in-One printing documents with good quality?
Franklin: I mean color
Keith Nelson: yes, except the color is not accurate. if I was just printing
pictures, it would be fine, but I am trying to match other particular
printed colors.
Keith Nelson: i have purchased expensive color matching devices
Keith Nelson: that make specific profiles for the ink and the paper that I'm
using
Keith Nelson: I need to load that profile into the color management
software.
Franklin: You can find all the specific files at C:\windows\Driver
Cache\I386\driver.cab
Keith Nelson: huh?
Franklin: If you experience any issue while loading profiles for color
management, you can check it in the above path
Keith Nelson: I don't understand what you mean
Franklin: If the issue still persiss, you can contact Microsoft as these
Profilles are related to Microsoft Files
Keith Nelson: no, this is not an answer
Keith Nelson: color profiles are stored
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
Keith Nelson: the problem is that YOUR software will not allow me to load my
color profile at print tie
Keith Nelson: print time
Franklin: Are you able to print fine?
Keith Nelson: no
Franklin: Could you be specific
Keith Nelson: the colors are not correct
Franklin: YOu have already informed that printing is fine
Keith Nelson: how more specific do you need me to be
Franklin: Please be specific with the issue
Franklin: How about copying from the All-in-One?
Franklin: Are you experiencing the same issue with copying too?
Keith Nelson: this is not the issue
Franklin: /Let us print a self test page from the front panel of the
All-in-One to isolate the issue
Keith Nelson: the question I have for you is how do I load the color
management profile into the software
Franklin: 1. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy
Color button.
2. Release both buttons. The self-test page prints.
Keith Nelson: I will do a color copy right now
Franklin: Let me know the result of above steps
Franklin: Let me know the print quality
Keith Nelson: ok
Franklin: Is the self test printed fine with all colors?
Keith Nelson: i just copied a pantone color chart
Keith Nelson: the colors do not match
Keith Nelson: which I expected - its highly unlikely that any printer wil
match, that is why there are profiles.
Franklin: Then it confirms the issue is with hardware part
Keith Nelson: what level of tech are you
Keith Nelson: I know more about this than you do
Franklin: The issue is not related to software and the settings
Franklin: As the copy from the All-in-One is not fine, the issue could be
either with All-in-One hardware or cartridges
Keith Nelson: don't get off the point
Franklin: Are you using Genuine or Refilled or remanufactured cartridges?
Keith Nelson: these are genuine HP cartridges
Keith Nelson: the original HP cartridges that come with the printer
Franklin: Let's check the ink levels
Keith Nelson: they're a few weeks old, ink levels are fine
Keith Nelson: the issue is that I can't load my profile into the HP software
Keith Nelson: can I talk to someone who has more experience?

that was it. he gave me a phone number to call that I haven't had the
chance to call yet
