IF this printer still has some value, what would be a reasonable
asking price?

Lets see, the IW II is a 9 pin printer that can print color with a
4-color ribbon. It has an NLQ mode, an HQ mode, and a draft mode that
is quite speedy. It is a serial printer. It is notorious for
misaligning tractor paper and labels, and is not as reliable as the
bulletproof IW 1.
It is the standard printer for the Apple IIGS and the rest of the
Apple II family. All Macs include IW support on the system disks, but
its print qualtiy is quite inferior to any inkjet printer. There is no
IBM support for it.
I'd say $75 is a high-end price for one.

Its print quality is quite inferior but the consumables (ie ribbon) is
cheap so its great for printing things like a FAQ from a newsgroup or
online docs for software, etc. I have very old IW I that I use
occasionally with my PB180 to print out code that I've written or long
documentation whose quality needn't be first rate. My printer is over 10
yrs old now and still going strong so don't write these things off yet.

APS Technologies ( I don't work for them) makes a cool little A/B switch for printers. I use one on my machine to hook in both an in=
k jet color and a hi res lazer. One is apple talk the other not. If you start with appletalk enabled and switch to the non-appletalk=
printer, turning off appletalk, you can go back without having to re-start to activate apple talk

Well, this switch is sold, but not made by APS. It's made by AESP, and you may find it at
other fine places too. The only problem with that switch is that not all cables can be pluged
in if the plug itself is too thick.
Get PrintChoice to switch printer driver and appletalk with one click.

Same with me. I have a A/B/C/D switch which allows me to work with both
my inkjet printer and IW. Works great. Just flick the switch then go
into the chooser (or desktop printer if GX) and switch to imagewriter then
your set to go. Its much easier than a SCSI setup (IMO). I got my switch
through MacWarehouse for 29.95
