Does anybody recommend a good cheap printer. My Epson Stylus Color
600's printer head broke the other day. I dont think I want to go
with epson since their printheads are built in and they dont seem to
last too long.
I'm looking for a printer with good text output, I dont use colour
much so colour quality isnt too important. It has to be reasonably
fast on text output, colout speed isnt to important. Also it cant be
expensive.
I was thinking of going with a HP printer as their printheads arent
built in. Are canon or Lexmark worth considering??
Anybody have any recomendations??

Thanks

You might consider the HP DeskJet 840 or 842. These have great text
output and pretty decent color, and cost about $99 US. If color quality
was more important I would recommend the DeskJet 930, which has similar
black text quality but better color graphics capability at $129. The
DeskJet 930 is somewhat more economical to operate for black text. See
the following for some comparisons and detailed spec's:

"Don't seem to last too long". Well if you've had the 600 from new that's
about 5 or 6 years. That's a good life for an inkjet. Especially if it's
been heavily used.

I got it new and I've had it around 3 years and I dont use it much, I
think thats pretty bad for a printer.

You should check out the HP932 at BestBuy. It was down to $130 last week,
and came with a $25 Giftcard as well, making it effectively only $105. You
can't touch that quality for that price anywhere else I know of. You will
love the text quality, and may even find yourself wanting to use the color
as well. It does fantastic photo quality stuff even on good grade inkjet
paper.
