Some printers, like laser printers, say things like "30 postscript fonts"...
What is this? Would a laser printer not be able to print any font you can
produce on a computer?

Thanks

Depends on the operating system and software. Under, say MS Windows,
the fonts are installed into the operating system, and you can print
any TrueType fonts you display. But if printing from an operating
system without built-in fonts, and if your software doesn't have the
fonts, then you can only print the ones built into your printer. You
can buy font cartridges to add more fonts to many laser printerd.

In days of yore, when computers were slow and printer memory was expensive
Printers had built in fonts that you could use in your applications. because
you didn't have to download a font with your file printing was much quicker.
These days I don't know if there is any advantage, however some printer have
True Type fonts and by using them you will have a speed increase while
printing.

I'm not a printer expert but I see no reason why a lazer
printer shouldn't print "any" fonts installed on the computer, I
stand to be corrected on this :-).
If you open the FONTS folder in the Control Panel folder
the printer fonts are the ones designated with a Red Capital A on the
icon.
