My printer has a dual connection - parallel and USB. Have used both ports
successfully and USB most recently. Now.......

I have bought a new USB scanner - which uses my only USB port and now I
can't reconnect my printer via the parallel port.

When I try to connect up via the parallel port, a message appears to check
all connections and cables etc.

Have I got to do something with the devices manager in 'My Computer' to get
back to using LPT1.

All advice welcome please.

Have you considered a USB hub?

Try this:

Connect your cables, then click Start>Settings>Printers>
(hilite your printer) right click on it>Properties>Details.
At the "Print to the following port:," scroll down to
LPT1[ECP Printer Port], hilite it, click on it, click apply
then OK and close the Printers screen. Restart your
computer, and that should do it.
