Yesterday I changed my Lexmark Z23 printer driver from the XP default
(Unidriver) to the Lexmark version. But it offers no improvements and
gives a 5 second delay before printing. So I want to revert back. But
so far my attempts have been unsuccesful using the 'Add driver' route
from Printer>Properties.

The easiest way is to unplug your printers USB cable, then reboot without
it. Shut down again, then plug it back in, reboot and let it load the
default driver.

In article <57ldsu8rjh9aglbmt...@4ax.com>,
terr...@dial.pipex.com says...
go to start/programs and look for your Lexmark printer. See if there is
an 'uninstall' option. If so, click that. If not go to start and look
for printers and faxes and delete the Lexmark printer. Then restart your
computer with the printer plugged in and turned on. I'm not positive
this last suggestion will uninstall the Lexmark driver...Try it and
see...:^)

If the other suggestions don't work:

1. open the Printers and Faxes folder
2. delete all instances of the Lexmark printer
3. restart the Print Spooler (Computer Management, Services and
Applications, Services)
4. in the Printers and Faxes folder, click File, Server Properties
5. select the Drivers tab
6. Remove the driver
7. restart the Print Spooler again

Then you should be able to add the printer and use the "old" driver.

It's perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.

Oh really? Have you tried it? Here, and I suspect on any XP user's
sytem, printers do not appear in the Device list.
