Wonder if anyone can give me a suggestion for a laser or inkjet
printer that will also work in an old legacy DOS program. I now use
the HP 890C but want something faster. Color not important.
Thanks, Albert

All of the current HP inkjets still support plain text and PCL. I think
all of the lasers do, but am not as certain about that.

For DOS printing the printer must have a parallel port, as DOS does not support
USB. Also the DeskJet 3320 and 3420 do not support PCL directly.
The following current models should meet your needs: DeskJet 38xx, 6122, 6127,
5550 and perhaps others. The PSC all-in-one printers and recent Photosmart
printers have USB ports only and are not compatible with DOS.
You might also look into an older LaserJet. A used LaserJet 4 or 4+ goes for
very reasonable rates of $100-200 or less these days.

Something like an old DeskJet 500 or DeskJet Plus with the Epson FX-80
emulation cartridge would do the trick if your program supports that
printer. (I happen to have one of those cartridges, with manual, along
with two other font cartridges on eBay right now.)
