Well, I got started on a Ghostscript driver some months ago but got stalled
by the execrable nature of Epson's current user documentation. The old Epson
manuals were quite good, but now they look like they were created by cutting
and pasting from the reference pages of previous texts with very little new
material and no explanatory text.
They have a manual you can purchase that's supposed to be better, but I've
been sidetracked on other projects since then. If anyone were to donate a
better description of ESC/P2 I wouldn't mind giving it another shot.
(ideally, since they're pushing scalable fonts and all that, they should
plug a Postscript interpreter in and trash all these funky escape sequences...
or failing that, go to ANSI)

There's a PBM to 24 pin driver in hp2pbm (as well as the HP PCL to PBM
driver). Obviously, it doesn't take advantage of the scalable fonts...
