I saw a recent post here that reminded me of something: I have a lot of
pictures that I would like to print, but aren't worth 8x10 one to a page. Is
there a program that will relatively easily format four to an 8 1/2 x11
page?

I am currently using PhotoShop 6 under Windows 98, and printing to my trusty
1270 fade-o-matic.

Well, I have no idea what a 1270 fade-o-matic is [grin]!

1: There are many graphics programmes that can create thumbnail pages (one
graphic image containing reduced size copies of graphics) - some should
let you choose how many images are put on each page (and thus how
much they are reduced in size). You can then print the single
image containing the reduced size copies of the originals.

2: Many home type publishing programmes have the ability to print
catalogs of graphics. Pretty much the same thing as a thumbnail
image, but print them out for you (e.g. PrintMaster).

3: If you have a home type publishing programme you can simply create
a poster and add and resize (be sure to keep the proportions the
same) four images (e.g. a poster in PrintMaster with the four
graphics added to the page).

4: If you have MS Word, you can do the same thing (e.g. a landscape
page and add and resize the images on a single page).

5: Some printer drivers do support 4up. You probably have some
PostScript driver in the standard Win9x distribution that does
so. You can configure that to print to file (to get a *.ps,
postscript file). If your printer is supported, you can then
use GhostScript/GhostView to print the postscript file on your
printer (GhostScript/GhostView is freeware).

6: You can use GhostScript/GhostView to convert the postscript output
to a graphic (use a postscript driver to create a 4up page in *.ps
format and then GhostScript/GhostView to convert to a graphic and
then print that).

Well ... it can be done :-)

LOTS of different ways. Depending on what you have available.

Fineprint doesn't seem to be freeware......

With Photoshop create a canvas the size of your paper.
Open the pictures you want and adjust them to the size you want.
Drag onto the canvas as separate layers and position to ensure margins.
Print.

If the 1270 is indeed the Epson Stylus Photo 1270, and you have the
same Epson drivers which I have (for an 870):

Suppose you want to print 4 pictures on a paper:
- Use the Photo Reproduction Lab
- Select, open the 4 pictures you want
- Print
- Setup: select A4 and the type of paper
- Layout tab: at Multi-Page, select N-up
- Below that, select 4-Page

Voila!

No extra software necessary.

Good luck, hope it works for you 2.

Edo.

In PS 5.5 I have used the file/automate/contact sheet function -- this may
not size the pics the way you want them or may leave more white space than
you want but it's a quick and dirty way to print multiple pics on one page
... I have not installed PS 6 yet but I sure hope they didn't eliminate it
from 6 ... the annoying thing is that you have to move the pics you want for
the contact sheet to their own folder ...

Begging your pardon, but Fineprint SDK, is freeware, and will allow you to
print multiple copies per sheet.
