I found the following thread over on Steve's Digicams Forums and I thought
it would be of value to post it here:

Thank you for your input regarding the ColorLife Photo paper. I did get in
touch with Epson like you mentioned regarding updated drivers for this
paper. The first tech I spoke to didn't have a clue of what could be the
problem but he gave me to a higher level tech. I was told by the second tech
that there isn't any new updated drivers for the ColorLife Photo paper but
there is a settings proceedure that has to be followed:
Select Photo Quality Glossy FILM (Media type)
Use 1440 dpi or 2880 dpi
Select Photo-Realistic as color mode settings
Move Color Slider settings for Cyan & yellow -7
and Magenta -12 , these are the basic color settings that Epson
suggests.
Now there is a big difference on my color photos for the best.
Thanks again for your suggestions John

Did the higher tech's suggestion make a difference in the print?

I love the HW Matte when I use it with my 780.

Using the settings that Epson E-mailed me made a 100% difference as to the
better quality of colors on my prints especially skin tones. Naturally the
Epson color slider settings are not written in stone but its a starting
point if you want to use their ColorLife photo paper.

After a lot of trial and error using ColorLife Photo paper with the 1280
printer, I found out that you don't have to use the 1440 or 2880 dpi
settings that Epson suggests, 720 dpi is just as sharp as the 1440 & 2880
dpi settings. You also save time and ink with the 720 dpi. Since I use
Photoshop to color correct all my people photos before I print them out on
the 1280 I have to use the following Color Slider Settings to keep my
Photoshop color corrections intact, I know it sounds crazy but thats what I
have to do if I want to use ColorLife photo paper: Using 720 dpi,Photo
Quality Glossy Film, Photo-realistic color mode setting, -7 CYAN, -12
MAGENTA, +2 YELLOW. These settings are different from what Epson suggests
but they work perfect for me.

Thanks! I just bought my first pack of colorlife and really like the surface
with a texture that is very similiar to Red River Polar Satin which also
requires the photo quality film setting in order to apply less ink. I have
only made one print so which looked pretty good, but I am going to try these
settings next.
