I've just setup a petition to urge Canon to release Windows XP drivers
for the Canon BJC-5000/5100 bubble jet printers (The 5000 model was only
released in summer 1998 and they won't support it anymore!).

You can stay informed about the XP driver situation at the following
website which explains the whole situation:

Thanks for your support! Please spread the word!

Yes, my motherboard is less than two years old and the manufacturer doesn't
support it any more...won't even answer a simple question about it...
Some people just don't understand the concept...

You probably wouldn't need new drivers for your daisywheel since they
were usually compatible with Epson FX-80 or IBM dot matrix printers
whose drivers are included with Windows XP.
As for the 'whining petition', I set it up to try to change a situation
I deem unfair, if it doesn't work then at least I tried. What have you
done to help the situation?
Thanks to those who signed the petition!
Regards,
Carleton
Totally unacceptable.........Canon is usually very good with customer
support...........A small understaffed company it is
not!.................I'm sure if they said they would take away the 2 hour
lunches from some of the upper management......you would have a driver
before sunrise...............I'll sign the petition.

More specifically to stop deliberately writing in incompatibilities between
the new versions and their predecessors!
What am I taling about? Win XP it based on Win 2K, so why can't you use Win
2K drivers under Win XP? Who's fault is that?

I have to agree with you, me was a real con job. What is it, about
a year and it's been superceeded by xp. If I were a peripheral
manufacturer after the debacle of win me I would be reluctant to
create new drivers for yet another possible shortlived operating
system.
Fortunately for some users, the odd win2k device driver works in
XP.

It's not just printers that are going unsupported - i have an 18 month
old scanner fb636u (that was still being sold some time afterwards)
and cant find any XP drivers for it nor any usful information on the
UK canon Website. Nor have they yet replied to emails.
It's a debateable issue. I think products should be supported for a
reasonable working life - 5 years minimum BUT Microsoft dont exactly
make things easy for manufacturers. Stupid, because having to buy new
hardware is a barrier to me upgrading and lining their pockets. The
hardware suppliers dont help either - why does every scanner need it's
own driver? Surely they could build a single driver that was
compatible accross the current range and backwards a few years?
Now I'll stick with HP, though I am satisfied with my Lexmark with black
cartridge.
***NEVER EVER CANON I SWEAR*** Boycott them.

Variety of colors
Choose either the FB636U, in stylish silver, or FB630U*, in classic ivory
white - you'll still get Canon superior scanning technology, housed in a
compact, sleek and elegant scanner body.
* Specifications for FB63OU are as per FB636U's*
