Brother HL-1440

Greetings.

I have a Brother HL-1440, nearly new, which does not print cleanly.

I suspect that the scanner window requires cleaning. I have examined
the manual, and I find no instructions on how to perform this routine
maintenance. In fact claning of the window is mentioned in the manual's
table of contents, but the appropriate pages are missing.

If you know how to clean the scanner window on the HL-1440, please

Have you change the toner recently I belive the problem is a grey background
you have to take a part the drum cartridge and clean it when new toner mixes
with old it produces this grey background
