Epson 600 fine blue streaking lines - what is it?

My old 600 has recently started to give me problems with intermittent very
fine (looks like one nozzle) blue streaking lines. It seems to be getting
worse after the printer is turned off for a couple of days. These lines may
go all the way the width of the printing path.

Any ideas on what's wrong with it? Any advice besides getting the new 870
:-) ?

Thanks.

You could try factory resetting it (hold down the paper feed and ink
Cleaning button while turning the printer on, then release them both, then
press
The paper feed again once) that may cure it. Try these and report back some
more details, are they occuring at any certain setting or paper choices?

Normally fine Cyan or magenta lines over the image (normally at 1440 dpi)
indicate a firmware problem - requiring a main board replacement

I did all of the above. Test pattern looks good. The streaks appear only in
1440 color printing. Since I do color printing on Epson Photo paper in
"extra
fine" mode, that's when I see it. There is no specific pattern for colors
and/or saturation of the image. I just printed two 5 by 7 of the same image
on a single page. The top one is ruined, the bottom one has only 2 streaks 2
inches wide in a broken line. The top one is almost all in streaks. Most of
the streak lines are broken. Also the color of the streaks is pure Cyan
(sorry I was wrong about the blue. I looked at the test pattern and realized
that it's the same color as the first nozzle sequence). I also changed the
cartridge (the light was flashing) -- same result.. I have always used
original Epson cartridges. If there is a pattern then it's that most of the
streaks are on the top of the page, even some streaks on the blank space
above the image.

Thanks for your help.

It is Cyan and it is at 1440. The printer is Stylus Color 600. Should I just
throw it away?

How common is this problem in Epson inkjets? I am considering getting a new
870.

Thanks.

In short, you need a new printhead! :)

I see this all the time at my service center. Had a guy with a case like
this last week. I released the printer I *thought* was repaired after doing
a head flush and a perfect 360 and 720 dpi print test (1440 just takes too
long to do!), but he came back with the 1440 line problem, and I simply
replaced the printhead in 10 minutes for him, and that did the trick!

I sell them for $59 if you are interested. Epson P/N: F059000
