Anyone having problems with Canon S520 printers? My family has 2 of
these (different
computers, different houses, different operating systems) and both have
failed with the
same non-printing problem. The printers all have plenty of ink have had
regular cleaning
(nothing physical, just the SW utility for cleaning). They seem to
print, report no errors,
the utility prints as if all is OK, the cleaning SW utility has no
effect. Re-seating the print
head, replacing the cartridges, etc. All have the same result; nada.

It seems to me that both print heads are just dead. Seems odd for a
company like
Canon. My experence shows a 100% failure rate before one year of use
with the Canon
S520 the print head.

I will probably NOT be buying another Canon anything after this... my HP
882C is at least
a couple of years older than the Canon and still cranking.

Go figure.

Contact Canon through email and escalate the incident in your next reply.
If you registered your printers and they are under a year old Canon will
send you a replacement.
The heads are guaranteed for one year.
This does seem very odd though.

I've had my S520 for a little over a year and am thrilled with it. I'm not
a heavy printer user but it's always performed well for me. I wonder if
Canon had an ink problem that may have caused the failure?

Have you noticed how often the ink has to be replaced? Is there a way to
minimize it in settings or turning the printer off when not in use? I
realize the tanks are small but it seems I'm replacing them every other
month.

quiet mode tends to reduce the number of cleaning cycles. They seem to run
a cleaning cycle even if they are just sitting there. I would also use the
auto power off features.

I did as you suggested with the auto power off mode but wasn't able to find
the quiet mode.

on my i850 and on the s330 photo the quiet mode is directly below the auto
power icon in the maintainance tab,
