I'm wondering if anyone who owns one of these and has been plagued by the
scanner issues has tried this new driver update and what is the result???
Thanks
Scott
I've gotten the 3330 working across a 10/100 Ethernet LAN through both
JetDirect 170x (parallel port) and JetDirect 310x (USB port) print
servers.
Printing, local copying, and faxing work fine. The ADF works OK for
copying and faxing.
HOWEVER, NOTE THAT THE SCANNER WORKS AT >100 secs per PAGE when using
the HP software and scanning to a file (and this was at grayscale,
100x100; black and white was actually worse, over *5 minutes*). This
is with the LATEST HP software, sent by HP Support. No significant
difference between either printer server in terms of scanning speed,
which is what one would expect.
I got it down to 35 sec/page when scanning directly into Adobe Acrobat
5 (NOT counting the 25 second initiatizing sequence in both cases).
I've confirmed with HP Support that the ADF can run at 14-15 pages per
minute for copying/faxing, but that scanning to a file (PDF, JPG, or
HPD, at least -- I didn't try the other formats) was slow.
BTW, this is on a 100 Mbps leg of a LAN, through a switch (not a hub),
a distance of 10 feet, to a 760 MHz Pentium III laptop (Dell Inspiron)
with 512MB RAM, no dropped packets, with WinXP installed just 2 days
ago on a reformatted disk, with only an AV program running in the
background (no change in times when deactivated).
Note that the reformat was because the HP software wouldn't completely
install on my main partition (the scanning utility and the utility for
scanning for compatible apps fail). It did install on a 2nd small
partition I keep, so the fault was at least partly in my system
(although none of the other 2450 executables I have fail to run on my
main partition). The HP software did install fine on my main partition
after the reformat
I was hoping to replace my HP LaserJet 3200, HP ScanJet 7450, and an
old photocopier with this. In light of these results, the ScanJet 7450
has to stay. Although I got to thinking whether more RAM in the 3330
might have an effect -- anyone know if this would even work in theory?
