I have an HP DeskJet 882C. Good printer. Fast enough. Output looks
very nice.

I am having the same problem with it that I have had with every other
horizontal-feed inkjet printer, including 3 Deskjets. That problem is
that when one send a job to the printer, the printer starts to attempt
to pull the paper from the tray, is unable to get a good grip, and
fails to grab any paper. The printer then returns the error, "No paper
in the tray." Well, there is paper in the tray. There's plenty of
paper in the tray. There's been thick, thin, watermarked,
unwatermarked, bond, copy, letterhead, and every other kind of paper
known to man in there and it won't feed it.

I am rather perturbed. I bought the printer 6 months ago on the
reccomendation of PCMagazine and a number of other sites that had said
excellent things about it. I was hoping that I would not have the same
problems I have always had with HP Deskjet printers, but I appear to be
having them again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't blame ya for being upset but try this. Get some 90% rubbing alcohol
and/or rubber rejuvenator(office supply) and clean those feed rollers.
Take care in the cleaning and use a clean cloth for best results. Now when
you have a jam, understand that some printers use a "cam" method to grip
the paper and cycles once for each sheet. If this cycle is interupted
it must be manually moved "foward" to reset any sensor present or at least
get it to a "start of cycle" engagement. Not all printers are that picky,
but if you have one that is, usually that gets back into the real world.
Also, remember some paper media can leave "paper shedding" a fine dust
that can also cause slippage or pronouced wear on the grip/feed rollers
depending on media, cleaning is about it for that. After awhile it's
simply best to replace the feed/grip rollers plus any separator pad if
part of the paper feed cycle. This advice goes to just about any HP
printers and other vendors.

good luck -----Willy

The paper feed problem you describe was most severe with DJ 510s and 520s,
which could fail very quickly. HP produced a feed roller clean up kit (using
spring mounted abrasive material) for these models, which would put things
right for a while. I have not encountered the problem with DJ 6xx models but
I have suffered a similar problem with some DJ 870CXIs at work. However,
these have been used very heavily as network printers for three years, so I
can't really complain. An abrasive clean up of the feed rollers helped for a
while but intermittent feed failures have returned.

I think that the paper stack is to tight because I had the same problem
with my deskjet 670C-Do as follws- lay a stack of paper on the carpet
and with a tight fist plant the back of your knuckles in the centrs of
the stack, then while pressing down hard make a circular motion lift your
fist and do the same thing again untill the paper forms a circular pattern
then straighten and return to tray,Good luck,it works, Arnold

I have had paper feed problems with every ink jet I have ever had and come to
just expect it with them. Especially when printing on both sides of the paper.
