Paper doesn't fall onto output tray. Pusher bar?

I'm using an HP Deskjet 970cse.

About a month ago, I started using slightly heavier card stock paper
on my deskjet. At about the same time, I noticed that the printer
would not push the paper onto the output tray after printing. When
this happens, the head slams into the paper that was just printed,
bending it - the new paper being printed then gets jammed eventually.

In effect, I have to man the printer whenever I print multiple pages.

At the end of printing a piece of paper, the paper just sits there and
I don't see it being "pushed out" onto the paper tray.

I read somewhere that the "paper pusher bar" (part # C6429-40031) was
used to push the paper out onto the tray. Some of talked about theirs
being broken (i.e., the levers).

The levers on my pusher bar appear to be intact (not broken). But,
the levers don't seem to move very much at the end of a print. I don't
see them attempting to 'push' anything.

Is this the problem?

If so, any suggestions on out to fix this or diagnose this?

Thanks!

That's the problem, perhaps the heavier paper has strained the mechanism. On
the 970 the lever is moved by a crank on the end of the Pivot and feed
roller assembly(C6455-60056. About 2/3 from the left there is a lug that
supposed to fit under the U in the paper pusher bar, it the U has slippped
under the lug the pusher bar will no longer swing as it should and wont push
the paper clear of the printhead. The parts are easy to get at and can be
had directely from HP in the USA or from one of their agents in the UK or
some of the other countries listed on the HP sight.
