I have 3 or 4 computer, no server, which are connect through a hub. Also on
this hub is an Extended Systems printserver with its own tcp/ip address. The
computers have tcp/ip installed and can ping the printserver.

Windows/Printers will not recognize the ip as a valid port. Any suggestions?

TIA,
D

You need to add it as a port. Not sure about Win9x, but on NT/2K you can
add a port when defining the new printer (as a TCP/IP or LPD/LPR port).
There should be a similar way to do this in Win9x.

Nope. Win98 needs port as //computer/printer. I'm finding that for win98's on a peer-peer network, that you can't use a tcp/ip printserver. I'm switching from the ExtendedSystems to an HP.

Try installing Netbui as a protocol. TCP/IP seems to be best for internet
connections. I am only an amateur, if you want good help try
microsoft.public.win98.networking.
