One of my colour cartridges is out of ink. I don't have a new one to
replace it (in mail). I have plenty of black ink and only want to print
in grayscale. Anyway to get the printer to print with no ink in one of
the colour cartridges?
I don't know if the printer will allow you to print at all it one of the
cartridges is totally out.

The printer will not print unless all the cartridges have ink. As some
people mentioned, the printer uses all the colors to create greyscale
ink. Also, even if you pick black ink only, it will still refuse to
print in order to prevent the printhead from drying out.

There is no way to do this, the printer is refusing to print to protect the
printhead.

You could fill it with water or a recommended cleaning fluid and then
reset the cartridge using an ink resetter unit. Then the printer will
work and the unused heads/cartridge would be safe.

The Epson printers I own all have an advanced option in the driver which
allows you to use the black ink only to print in greyscale. Has Epson
removed this from the current R models?
