John - you are a bit late, sad to say. Epson just won a suit that stopped
the sale of compatable carts for their printers in the US. You might find
some on ebay, but selling them is now illegal as far as I know.

That is a wise choice.

I would never by anything like that on ebay.
As far as non Epson ink in your Epson printer.
1. It will not longer be an Epson printer
2. If you do photos the quality will be lower
3. If you do photos there is a higher probability of fading
4. No paper profiles exist
5. Unless you print very frequently you run the risk of clogging a
printhead and ruining the printer
So if you print a lot and do not care about quality then make any
choice. I think you will find that the same stuff is sold under many
different names by many places. I found out that one company sell under
3 different websites and they sell the same stuff under different names.

That's news to me, as I just received an order of compatibles for our C82
Epsons from our source in New York City on Monday. I'm aware of the ITC's
ruling attempting to slap a tarrif onto each imported cartridge but not
aware that the President signed it into law. What news exactly do you have
Burt?
Two places that will have decent quality compatible ink cartridges that I
have purchased from are
www.inksupply.com (MIS)
and
www.alotofthings.com
Additionally you can purchase spongeless cartridges from MIS for the R200
that are easy to refill, a chip resetter, and bulk ink. I've been using this
method for a dozen C84, C88+ printers at school and this method has saved a
fortune both in money and not having to throw empty cartridges away.

Is this a repeat of 3 posts?
Glad to hear that they are still available. I must have been misinformed.
Since I switched from Epson to Canon printers about four years ago I only
see information about Epsons from this NG and the Nifty-stuff forum. Not
from my own experience. Thanks for the correction.
From reading the patent infringement lawsuits you will find that a
total in all 24 major companies were named. 750 branded cartridges
which is overlapping as several manufacturers will rebrand their
cartridges if you purchase enough from them. From what I read many
companies were not originally part of the lawsuit and have not yet had
any charges filed against them. One of these is Pro-Color or Pro
Color and another is a company which is not associated with Pro Color
which is Real Color. For all intents and purposes they should both be
available in the United States at this time.
You mentioned alotofthings having R200's left. I do not believe that
they have any at this time. They appeared to be selling out remaining
inventory. I purchased the last of the G&G or at least I assume I did
as when I called they stated they had none left. All that appears is
the MMC at this time.

That is why you can get the same crap under different names from
multiple sources and not know it. There is no standardization.

Whenever you deal with the junk ink you always assume what you are buying.

The only thing worse than no information is misinformation.
You don't seem to have a life either, because instead of filtering M out
as everybody else would do, you make things worse by your replies that
are useless for this group. So if you don't filter M out, I filter you
out as well for otherwise I won't get rid of M after all.
Have fun, Bert

That's OK. I'm sure they don't like you much, either. Or maybe they do.
Your rants have probably convinced more people to try aftermarket ink
than all the rest of us put together!

And
Have faded lower quality photos
And a clogged printhead
Not true...
For photos stick with what the pros use...Epson.
For a combination of text and quality photos use HP.
Canon is a cheaper alternative to Epson and HP. And the best Canon
inks come from the aftermarket.
Several bits of misinformation from this poster that I would like to
comment on -
1) Canon users - don't use "generic" inks from Costco or anywhere else.
Only use aftermarket inks that are formulated for Canon printers. I use
Imaging Specialist inks from MIS and from Precision Colors. Others
successfully use Hobbicolors inks or Formulabs inks from Alotofthings.
2) All inkjet printers run cleaning cycles - not just Canon. All inkjet
prints use inks that are fast drying on the paper, and they can also dry in
the printhead nozzles when the printer is unused for a period of time. The
cleaning cycles assure that there is wet ink in the nozzles, and they can
also clear minor clogs - which ALL inkjet printers can have. There is
nothing specific about Canon inks, OEM or aftermarket, that causes clogs
more than any other printer. The inks that ahve been some of the worst
offenders for clogging were some of the Epson pigment based inks. Epson
printheads last longer, but the removable Canon printheads are easier to
clean from a clog, and they can be replaced - albeit for a fairly high price
compared to the price of a new printer.
3) In another post "aftermarketink" suggests Canon compatable carts from
Staples. You can be assured of a uniform ink supply by purchasing bulk ink
from one of the above mentioned online vendors and refilling your own OEM
Canon carts once you have emptied them of the OEM Canon ink. Most
compatable Canon prefilled carts at the big box stores like Staples don't
save you nearly as much money as they should for stepping down from the OEM
Canon ink/carts.
4) Aftermarket Canon inks are somewhat more prone to fading than Canon OEM
inks. Canon OEM inks in the BCI-6 carts are more prone to fading than some
of the other manufacturers' OEM inks. the newer Canon inks in the chipped
carts are advertised as less fade prone than the older Canon OEM inks. That
said, properly storaged and displayed prints made from some aftermarket
inks for Canon printers hold up extremely well. I have framed prints that
have been displayed for nearly four years now without any appearance of
fading. I don't, however, put them in a South facing window in full
sunlight! In addition, the prints I've made with IS aftermarket inks in my
i960 and ip5000 printers are every bit as beautiful as friends' HP and Epson
prints. I've personally had Epson printers and now use Canons.
"aftermarketink" regards Canons as a lower level of printer comparted to HP
and Epsons. He is entitled to his opinion. Several printer reviews show
Canons in the moderate cost range to rank very favorably with Epson and HP
printers. I'm not a rabid supporter of Canon - I with with them because
their carts are easier to refill, and there are very good aftermarket bulk
inks available. AND - the prints are beautiful.
