I use mostly PostScript type 1 fonts and have a true Adobe PostScript
networked printer (HP Lj4) which I plan to retain in a heterogenous
environment of Unix and Windows machines.

I'm considering purchasing either HP's 2200dse or 1220se because of
their higher resolution (1200 dpi). Which of these models would offer
the best chance of PostScript and TCP/IP network compatibility with the
existing Lj4 printer?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

TCP/IP compatibility will be the same, provided you buy a JetDirect for
it.

Does the 2200 come with PostScript? Or are you asking about using
Ghostscript to drive it?

I've used and supported the HP2100 and HP4050, and the HP4000-series are
a lot more printer than the 2000-series for not a lot more money. While
their PostScript isn't Adobe, I haven't noticed any compatibility
problems.

I recommend taking the Kyocera printers into consideration.
We made very good experience with the kyocera-mita line (FS3800).
This one has PS as well as Prescripe, HPLJ and others.
No problems with it and best integration with CUPS and Postscript.
