I am constantly getting "paper/document" jams in my Officejet (2 of
them) although there is nothing in the mechanism. If I fiddle with the
thing a bit it will ,sometimes, print another sheet or two and then stop
with the same error message. I can't find any troubleshooting data in
the books or on line. I've cleaned them as best I know how and tried to
spot anything that could be causing the problems but can't see an
obvious reason. HELP?

Hi John,
I have a similar problem with a deskjet 612c. The printer initializes with a
loud 1 to 2 second buzzing sound with power on light lit and steady. When
trying to print, paper does not advance, and paper feed light starts to
blink and no error messages. Turning off printer clears the blinking paper
feed error light but when trying to print again, the same event occurs.
Nothing is in the paper path and the ink cartridge travels the guide from
left to right and back again. ( lights but nobody's home:)

I have tried this printer on a different machine (p-350, os win95) and with
a different ieee printer cable. I attempted to return it to Fry's
Electronics (the place of purchase) and they said it would cost me $60 to
repair if the printer was "just jammed or needs cleaning". I went to another
retailer and purchased an epson 660 and now can print my documents just
fine, thank you very much. Since I purchased the hp printer at Fry's and
this printer is still under warranty, and they are an authorized hp service
center, (the reason I purchased it there), I sent an email to HP asking them
to send me an email stating that they authorize Fry's to warranty service
this printer without the threat of charging me. I do not believe HP's
warranty service included such charges to the customer during the 90
warranty period. I am waiting for HP's reply.
