I am trying to help someone who has a problem with this printer.

He has not used it for some considerable time and now finds that the
onboard printer screen displays a message saying the cartridges are
out of date. He bought a set of compatible cartridges and now has a
message saying the black cartridge is damaged. He put the old HP black
cartridge back in but the error message is still the same ie
"damaged".

His new laptop has had software installed for the printer but nothing
works or communicates as I assume that the printer is blocked by the
error messages appearing on its own screen.

Has anyone got a solution for this? Can any buttons be pressed to
override the warnings? Nothing in the manual covers this even though
the warning messages says refer to the manual.
