Hi there,

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to get. I'm looking for a
good color and black/white quality printer with the added function of a
scanner. I'd rather have a flat-bed scanner incorporated into my
machine as I hear this is better. Is it really? What are the big
differences between a multifuncition and a deskjet--quality for sure is
worse on a multifunction? I've been looking at Lexmarks, and HPs, and
would consider a Canon...any informed opinions on all of this? Thanks in
advance.

Greg.

I cannot speak for other manufacturers, but for HP the print quality for a
particular multifunction is nearly identical to the DeskJet printer they are
based on. For example, the G series All-in-one units will have print quality
or the DeskJet 970 printers, the PSC 2110 and 2210 will print like the DeskJet
5550. If you do not care about printing from photo cards and faxing you might
take a look at the PSC 750 ($149) or PSC 2110 ($199). The G85 is currently
being closed out at $199. It includes an automatic document feeder and Fax
capability. I bought a PSC 950 a year or so ago, which includes fax and card
slots for direct printing from camera cards. They are now about $249 I think.

Personally I think the all-in-one units are the way to go compared with a
standalone printer and scanner. You can quickly get spoiled with a color
copier.
