Epson Photo -- Faded/Pastel Prints

I have an Epson 820 printer. It makes excellent photo prints on photo paper,
but prints made on inkjet paper are washed out/pastel.

My older HP which the 820 replaced could not match this printer for photos, but
it made very nice saturated prints on inkjet paper.

Is this just the way the printer works? If not what do I do to get saturated
prints on inkjet paper?

In my experience this is characteristic of Epson photo printers: spectacular
on photo papers, poor on inkjet paper. If you purpose is to do photo-quality
printing why would you not want to use the appropriate paper?

Check that you are setting the right type of paper in the printer setup.
Add a saturation layer to the image to boost color before printing.
Also add a curves layer to boost contrast.
Turn these layers off before printing to better paper.
Plain paper has a matte surface and will always look duller than luster
or glossy papers.

Try the Matt-Heavyweight paper. It's far less expensive than the glossy
stuff, and under glass looks darned good.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but make sure that the correct paper
type is selected in the print options. Makes a big difference in saturation.
