Replaceing a laseer printer.

`I have been using a Lexmark Optra E312 for a long long time. I got
one spare cartridge, when I run low on ink, I exchange cartridges open
up the old cartridge and refill it with ink I got online.

I was just refilling it, discovered that I used the last of the refill
ink., so I decided to order some more. When I went online, I decided
to check out other toner refill kits. I noticed that with a lot of
refill kits required that you buy a chip that you have to replace on
the cartridge.

OK back when I bought the printer they were starting to put these
chips on inkjets, but not on lasers. Do all new lasers and inkjets
have this kind of chip? If not who makes printers that don't?

The printer has stood up well, but I expect that when the fuser goes
I will probably have to buy a new printer, so I want to catch up on
the technology.

I used a laser printer for two reasons, a lot of stuff I print gets
wet ( coffee stains and such ). I use up a box ( 10 reams ) of paper
about every nine months.

I also see newer inkjet printers come with UV ink which is supposed to
make the ink waterproof after it is exposed to UV. Is there any other
technology like this that makes inkjet printing waterproof?

I also saw that there are cointinuous-ink-feed-systems, Reservoirs
that you pour ink into, with tubes running to ink cartridges. The
reservoirs feed ink to the cartridges when ink gets low. You just pour
ink into the reservoir. I suck at refilling cartridges by hand do
these work well?

Any other "advances" in technologies that I should know about?
