I have two printers, an HP 5L and a Lexmark Z51. I recently installed
Windows XP and both printers are not working. I tried
troubleshooting, but nothing is working. When I click on 'Print a
test page', or try to print a document, my HP 5L will blink for 2
seconds like it's about to start printing, and then it stops, the
printer status screen also disappears after 1 second. I haven't had
any of these problems with windows 98 or me.

I tried using command prompt to get to lpt1, but it just freezes. My
lexmark doesn't even blink or anything, it doesn't respond at all.

It seems like there is a problem with the printers receiving the data
coming from the computer.

Everything appears to be normal in the control panel with the
printers, but my printers aren't responding. I'm using the XP drivers
that came with windows for both printers. I've tried installing win2k
and win 98, me drivers on the computer, but that's not working either.

Can anyone please help me out here? I'd really really appreciate it!
Please either email me at roysh...@yahoo.com or reply to this
posting. THANK YOU!!!

Have you tried the obvious? Like finding compatible drivers. You need to use
2000 drivers as there won't be any XP drivers available yet.

I use a HP5L w/XP Build 2526 and have had no problems on the driver
side. Have you tried deleting the printers from your control panel
and rebooting? XP should detect the printer and automatically install
the driver. My only other through would be to physically disconnect
one printer (I would start by disconnecting the Z51), deleting the
printers in the control panel, and re-booting. Perhaps having those
two printers recognized at the same time is causing a problem...

Good luck.
