I have been using Krylon 1301 crystal clear acrylic spray to protect and
water proof my ink jet prints and it seems to work fine but I don't like the
smell and spraying them. The smell stays on the print for a few days. But It
works great.

I am wondering now if Laminating them would make them last longer and not
shift the color any.

Would I want to use a hot laminator or cool adhesive type laminator. I have
been looking at the Brother Coollaminator model LX-900 which they say will
laminate an 8x10 in less than 30 seconds. The samples I have seen from this
laminator are terrific, but I just don't know enough about laminating.
Any info would be apprecitated.

Thanks

I have used a hot laminator on color prints from my HP694C inkjet with
no problems.

I laminate all the time with a hot laminator and do not have any problems.
I put two prints back to back and then laminate. This way I get to laminate
two prints at a time and it also saves money.

How long does it take to laminate a 8x10 sheet with a heat laminator? Do you
feel like it extends the life of a photo quality print?

Thanks

I hot laminate all the time. Last seven years. First inkjet prints
were done on a Lexmark 4079, now an HP 1220. I do fire evacuation maps
and plans. All are mounted in public areas, many in a sun lit area.
The older ones have been up for seven years. Very few show any sun
fading.
Those that are in direct sunlight have faded a little, but not enough
to be noticed unless compared to those non sunlit areas.Don't know if
the laminating material has an inherent UV protection.

There are some lamination products that don't use heat but
use adhesives instead. To avoid any effect on the surface
of the item, there is no adhesive in the front of the contact
area.

You can take a look at the 3M product that does this. My
local Sam's Club has the 3M lamination product next to
the other lamination products in the office supplies area.

Thanks guys for the info. I think I will just go for the heat laminator. The
Coollaminator by Brother I was looking at, I have changed my mind about it.
I called Brother and asked them about the adhesive effecting the ink jet
prints and they checked and called me back twice and told me that it would
effect them in time.
Very nice people at Brother, I did appreciate their honesty.
