I have one Epson Laser Printer eps 4300 and now it shows toner low in
the display. but I looked in the market its very costly to buy a new
toner and I also heared about toner cartridge which is cheap. I don't
know the real difference between a toner and toner cartridge. If
somebody knows about this please help me and which will be the best
option for me.

Thanks,

Supi

Sounds like you have it confused. Toner is the powder that goes in the
toner cartridge. You can often buy toner alone that you can put into the
toner cartridge yourself. Or you can buy a toner cartridge that is already
full of toner and simply replace the empty toner cartridge that is in your
printer.

Generally, it's cheaper to replace just the toner yourself, but often the
cartridges are manufactured so that you cannot re-fill them yourself.

But again it sounds like you have some of the details confused. You should
educate yourself about what you really need and go from there. Nothing is
worse than buying parts for your computer or printer and finding out that
they weren't what you really needed or wanted.

If you shake the toner cartridge from side to side, you may shake up
the toner inside and get rid of the 'toner low' message.

Thanks Irwin for your reply and thanks once again for clearing my
doubts. No I understood what I should do now. I hope all the cartrdges
are not refillable, how can I know that the toner cartridge in my
printer is refillable?

Waiting for the reply,

Thanks once again.

Well, it depends on who you talk to. Many cartridge manufacturers will tell
you that their cartridges are not refillable or at least not refillable by
you. But people often create work-around to this and are able to fill those
cartridges themselves with bulk toner they buy. Fortunately, people who do
this often post their work-arounds to the web or newsgroups.

I guess the first thing to do would be to visit the cartridge manufacturer's
website and see if they offer instructions on how to refill it. If they
don't, then look online (especially in the newsgroups) and see what other
people have done. If people have done it, you'll find that they've written
about it. If they weren't able to, you'll find that they have written that,
too.
