Can someone tell me the procedure to reset the black ink indicator after a
refill on a 932c (the "45" cartridge) using tape? I did a Google search but
couldn't find it. I understand it involves taping the contacts in some
sequence. I have three cartridges (one in the printer, two new) but I'd
rather not unwrap the new ones to do the "swap three cartridges" reset
method because I'm concerned they will dry out before I use them.

Thanks, 'spud

Hi

Once again I´ll tell you what one of my customers has sent me - a method to
restore the
inklevelmeter in the C6578 cartridge - also work on 51645 and
other similar HP cartridges. Tried out in a HP G55. Nice if you give me a
feedback.

1. Open printer so cartridges go to the middle posirtion.
2. Take out the color cartridge and place it so you have the copper
contacts against you - and nozzles down!
3. Put a small piece of tape on the upper 4 contacts on the leftmost
vertical coloumn
4. Reinsert cartridge in printer - close printer and wait untill printer
is in rest position
5. Open printer again - take out cartridge - remove tape - place tape
over the opposite contacts in the right side
6. Reinsert cartridge into printer - close printer - wait until it is
resting.
7. Open printer again - take out cartridge - remove tape.
8. Reinsert cartridge.

If everything is done correct there will be a message - either on
printer or on screen telling you
that cartridges is calibrated or shall be calibrated. When this is done
the process is finished and
your printer thinks it´s a new cartridge and levelmeter is working
again!

kind regards

Install a new one, when it works etc. after it becomes low, then install
the refill. The ink cart tracking is only for the current ink cart,
installing any other ink cart resets the value as I understand it. See if
you can get your hands on a capping for refilled ink carts from some
refill ink vendors, they're a plastic device that seal refills. While any
taping may work, its been known to cause weird problems of sorts if not
done correctly or too repeatly, maybe tape glue? Anyways, I'look for that
info, I have it buried here somewhere(you weren't in a hurry?). :(

good luck -----Willy

It tracks 2 cartridges. You can actually inspect the signatures of your
last two carts and how much ink is in the current one with the following
keypresses which print out a test page:-

Hold POWER ON down while pressing the following........
Press CANCEL 4 times
Press PAGE FEED once
Release POWER ON

I just tried the above on my 51645A and it works fine. Actually the
printer calibrates each time the cartridge is being inserted.

Thanks for the hint. That pop-up window was getting rather annoying.
