How to get Laserjetiii to work in XP:
i recently purchased a computer with windows xp. The laserjetiii
driver would not install. kept getting an error message. I contacted
compaq and they told me that they knew of no way to install the xp
drivers for the hp laserjetiii.
I have found a work around (if you have a w2k install disk):
place w2k install disk in cd rom,go to install printer, use the have
disk option, go to the i386 directory on the cd and select the file
NTPRINT. then select the hp/laserjet driver (it will tell you its not
digitally signed!). when copying the driver files you may need to
redirect it to the i386 directory again, select the driver.cab file.
It worked for me:)

I've got XP loaded in our shop test computer. It has a bunch of drivers
loaded including HPIII. Didn't have a bit of problem installing it. Why
would anyone buy a Compaq? Price? Next time get either a Dell or a
clone.

Hi Moe, I have no Idea why anybody would want a Compaq, however it
may have something to do with the fact that they were one of the
first PC Clone manufacturers. They used to be fast but now they
must be one of the slowest machines made.

If I hear the door open and it's a client with a Compaq I feel
like refusing to do anything with it.

Would someone care to explain to me just how the heck you can have a problem
installing the HP III driver in XP ? Since the driver comes bundled with XP,
the original poster's message makes absolutely no sense. This being an older
printer, I doubt seriously that any other driver (should one even exist)
would offer any advantages over the one in XP.

Hey Moe,
I was only agreeing with you about Compaq. I think people don't
want to give XP a chance, so they do anything to screw with it's
setup.:-)

Any Idea what part of the LJIII DC power supply causes a bad 24
volt line giving a false error 12, paper out, seen as were talking
about LJIII's
