I have got a HP laserjet series III printer, and wanted to know what
the advantages were in getting a memory upgrade?

(I also have a series II, with only 512kb memory. would this only be
good for text? I'm guessing it would struggle with pictures etc??)

It comes with 1Mb as standard, but would it be worth bumping it up to
2,3,4 or 5?

Also, are there any on-line retailers that sell this at "reasonable"
prices!!!!

Thanks

The main advantage is "graphics handling" and smoothing or how it handles
the output for less of a jiggerly resolution. The increased memory also
allows a quicker trun-around between system and printer. The real basic
minmium is 2mb, but 3mb is much better but the 2mb will do fine for most
cases. Cost, well I can't really help you there, do as I do as and surf
the www for best prices or visit the local computers shows if there are
some in your area. Local shops that deal in used equipment may provide yet
another resource for such.

good luck ----Willy

The printer works (www.printersworks.com) sells the memory boards for both
the II and III. To print a FULL page of graphics you do need 2 meg. To
use a postscrip cartridge you need 3 meg. The price difference now is not
all that much.

I have quite a few memory boards in stock. More for the III series than
the II. The upgradable 2 Meg cards are $19, the full 4 Meg cards are $39.
Plus $3.50 Priority Mail shipping.
