Any help is appreciated.
Fred
My HP890 had the same symptoms. I fixed it by taking out both color
and black cartridges. Then turn it off. Turn it on. Put in black
cartridge. Turn it off and on. Put in color cartridge. Turn it off
and on.
Then it stopped blinking yellow and all was well. See if this works
for you.

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpa02060.html has
instructions on cleaning the cartridge contacts. This should correct your
problem.

I have had a similar problem on an HP940c but in this case it was the Black
cartridge symbol that the arrow pointed to. Examination of the gold plated
sprung loaded contacts visible when the cartridge is removed showed that one
of them was pushed right back.
I dismantled the printer and took out the carriage, and found that the pin
was bent. I have managed to straighten it out and now it moves freely. I
finally got the printer back together about an hour ago but as yet have not
proved that this was the cause.
If you try this, its not a job for the faint hearted!!
I hope this helps.
Ian.

HP notes in their support pages that they have had problems with certain
batches of their 6578 color cartridges. Perhaps you purchased your
cartidges from one of those bad batches. They should not give you any
problems to get replacements.
