HP OfficeJet V40 extremely slow

Any ideas why an HP OfficeJet V40 would print extremely slow? Simple text
takes minutes to print one page. I replace a Canon Multipass C5500 with
this and the Canon prints a lot faster.

Does the printer pause for 5-8 seconds after each swath? If so one of the
cartridges may have failed. It may also be that you have selected photo paper
as the default paper type, which would cause the printer to make many passes
over each area.

Well, if you find a solution, post it here. I've
uninstalled/reinstalled mine about 10 times so far on 2 different
computers with different OS's. After reinstall on XP Pro using HP's
latest drivers it works like it should, then anywhere from 1 day to a
week it will slow down with no major changes to the system. I've
contacted HP support and they are absolutely worthless in solving the
problem. They send out their generic reply and thats about it. I've
tried different usb ports on both comuters and followed the directions
for installation to the letter. I'm about ready to junk it and buy
another Epson.

I have absolutely no problems with my v40 under Win XP Pro so it looks like
there is some feature of your installation that is slowing things down. I
previously had a Canon Multipass C20 and the v40 prints just as fast as
that.
