Using Acroread 3 with NEC Superscript 860 printer

I was trying to print a .pdf file using the 2 up facility in the 860
driver v2.0, but got complete garbage. It was fine printing full size.
Has anyone else had this problem, and have you managed to fix it?

(a) I've had the problem.
(b) I have found no fix.
(c) The basic problem is that Acrobat is at heart deeply unsatisfactory--
in fact, hostile--software.
