printer not printing text

I have a Lexmark Z42. It will print a picture, but not text. Sounds like it is
printing but just a few faint lines or dashes appear on the paper. I have put
in new ink cartriges.
Someone know what the problem might be?

just a small suggetion maybe not the answer you're looking for try and
print a black and white picture does it print?

My dad is having the exact same problem with his Dell and his Epson EX
all print colors including black work fine, but text won't print.

The found the printer would print text in color, but still not in black. I was
glad it wasn't something wrong with my 'puter. Tryed a new black cartridge I
had, and a couple of old ones I had on hand. Still wouldn't work.
My solution was to buy another printer. I got a HP deskjet 656c at Wal Mart for
$48.00. It prints good for my needs.
Thanks for the suggestions on how to fix the Lexmark.
