Is it realy any good?
Especially since it's not something that'll get constantly used.
Use it once to calibrate your system (scanner, monitor, printer)
and you're done. Then what do I do with a $300 software package
that may never be used again?

Are there any less expensive color calibration packages?

Any other easier way to calibrate my system,
like a DIY, with no extra software purchase?

Since I do a fair amount of DTP and proof work, yes it was worth it. You
can do it yourself through you imaging program, like in PhotoShop, but it's
a hit or miss proposition. If you're concerned with commercial grade color
matching, Monaco EZ Color is the cheapest program I've seen to achieve this
level.

I have found it to be good. I have read that you should create new profiles
every time you change your color cartridge. I have one image that I print
each time I change my color cartridge and there hasn't been a difference
yet, when I do see a difference I'll re-profile for my printer. I'm getting
good results with the printer profiles I created for each type of paper I
use. If you want to take the guess work out of calibrating your monitor you
should go with ColorVisions Spyder. URL refers:

Frank,

Don't waste your money on it. The program I use is MonacoEZColor 2.0. I
regret paying so much for the program.

1. The technical support people are rude and seriously lacking technical
knowledge on how the products work.
2. The product is buggy and often crashes with no reason. They said they are
aware of the problem but there is no fix.
3. The documentation is poor. If you have a file from an unknown profile
source (say, digital image file from your friend) cannot be converted to
printer profile. If you do, you get printouts that are completely off. This
is a big problem.

I suggest you look around for a more reliable product.

Regards,
Al

And is there a major problemw ith turning off colour managemnt prior to
trying to set up the profile

I have now over the last five months gone through the initial calibration
process about eighteen times without EVER managing to get past the CROP
stage. I have turned everything off again and again and all Monaco seems to
say is that I haven turned off some colour management and that must be
preventing me form cropping.

Monaco has been relatively helpful but I did get a bit worried when after
they had been trying completely unsuccessfully to fiddle with everything for
over 30 days without success, they suddenly told me that the warranty had
expired

(It is now gathering dust on my shelf)

Since you don't like it, do you want to sell it?

Hallo,

I have watched this inlays about calibration - I have also seen the prices -
As an old darkroomer having color analyseras etc - and thinking that I don't
use them that
mauch anylonger - I trust my own knolige -(what that is anyway) - thinking
of - is there now simpler method from an great senior as me - who can tell
how he/her did it without all this equippment.
Perheps you experienced darkroomer thought of using Your darkroomanalyzer
(crazy?)
Anyway "try and error method" seems to demand a lot of experience as in real
darkroom.

Anyone who can tell an old photoamateur how he/her did it?
Any other reply is appriciated!

There must be many out there coping with this in your own manner - without
this lovely equippment!

Tell me!
