I've seen this with other Brother mono laser printers. Eventually, if
you ignore it, the printer will refuse to print. I never investigated if
I could reset the counter. In my case, I was seeing some signs of drum
damage (repeated defects along the page that correspond to drum
circumfrence). I suspect those were from running a lot of non-flat stock
through (like envelopes).

I ended up replacing the drum the first time. Around the second time it
came up for me, the printer also wanted me to replace the fuser unit.
I just junked the printer and started fresh.

My printer has the 720 drum, supposed to last for 30k pages. I suspect,
without checking records, I get about 18 months out of that.

Knowing how to reset that counter would be interesting to me. I reset
the toner cartridges and use them until the print quality degrades. I'd
probably do the same for drums, if I knew how.

Here is the procedure for resetting the drum counter

If you do this the printer will believe that you have replaced the drum and all
will be good until the counter reaches the count again.
The print quality will probably deteriorate well before that time and then a
new drum will be needed.
